As many as 74 percent of Hungarians aged 18 to 52 are not ready to change residence or travel long distance for work.
Only five percent of the people who were polled would be willing to change residence in Hungary or accept a job abroad.
The data shows that Hungarian workers are not mobile enough, even in spite of the high unemployment rate, 7.9 percent, conclude the authors of the study, citing as reasons the problems with selling or buying real estate and family matters.
The information of the Ministry of Labour shows that workers with a higher degree of education are more mobile than those who are less educated and 84 percent of the workers do not want to further educate themselves in order to improve their odds on the job market.
Going to work on foot or by bicycle
Among those who intend to seek employment abroad, 46 percent say that they speak one foreign language, 12 percent speak two, and two percent speak three foreign languages, while 40 percent of the people who were polled do not speak any foreign language.
65 percent said that their work place was less than 10 kilometres away from their place of residence and seven percent said that they had to travel more than 30 kilometres to work. As the biggest obstacles to commuting to work, they cited bad traffic infrastructure, high costs of travel, and a substandard offer of sublets.
35 percent of the people go to work on foot or by bicycle, 25 percent go by car or motorcycle, five percent by train, and 17 percent by intercity buses, while others use public transport.
