Import prices fell in August

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. import prices fell 0.4 percent in August after climbing 0.3 percent in the previous month, the Department of Labor said Tuesday.

Prices for fuel imports fell 1.8 percent, contributing to the overall decline. Non-fuel import prices in August rose 0.2 percent.

Import prices have dropped in two of the past three months, having dropped 0.7 percent in May to June and risen 0.3 percent in June to July.

Export prices for August rose 0.5 percent with agricultural export prices up 2.2 percent and non-agricultural export prices up 0.3 percent.

Export prices rose 0.2 percent May to June and fell 0.4 percent in June to July.
