Google accused Microsoft of implementing its own functions for searching the desktop breaking the rules of the agreement from 2002.

The American software giant Microsoft accepted to change its new operation system Windows Vista. This was after its American competitor Google complained about the inbuilt function of searching the desktop in Vista that breaks the ideas of market competition, said the American ministry of justice.

Microsoft will then build in the option with which the users will be able to choose which program for searching the desktop they wish to use. On computers running the operating system Windows.

The disputed function “Instant Search” lets users search hard disks. Google accused Microsoft, that by implementing their own function of searching the desktop, they broke the rules of the 2002 agreement which was a result of a court battle which the competitors started. They claim that Microsoft is making it hard to create programs compatible with its present operating systems.

Microsoft announced that it will change Vista so that users will be able to chose the software they want to search their desktop, the same as was the case with playing multimedia content and searching the internet.

Furthermore, Vista users will be warned that using the function of searching the desktop will slow down their other applications. Microsoft has committed themselves to give the competition data, with which they will be able to better synchronize their products with the Vista operating system.

The changes will be included in Service Pack 1 for Vista at the end of the year.
