He said President Barack Obama had made clear his support for a strong U.S. auto industry

Everyone involved in the crisis engulfing the U.S. auto industry will have to make sacrifices to help the sector become strong again, the White House said on Thursday.

"All the stakeholders involved are going to have to give in order to ensure that that restructuring takes place," spokesman Robert Gibbs told a news briefing.

He said President Barack Obama had made clear his support for a strong U.S. auto industry.
