In the last month of 2006 in Croatia, according to information of the Central Bureau of Statistics, there were more employed labourers in public administration like defence or health than in the entire refinery industry.

Therefore 274,000 people are employed in education, health, defence, police and other akin activities, while 241,000 in the refinery industry. 'As many as' 1,534 people are employed in the fishing industry.

Women make up the majority in education, hotel services, trade, financial mediation and health.
