Ultimatum of G20 handed out to Teheran

Text

French, British and American State leaders and officials made a common statement regarding latest Iranian nuclear efforts

On Friday, shortly before the opening of the G20 session in Pittsburgh, Gordon Brown, Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy made a common statement. They accuse Iran of having built a secret factory to make some nuclear fuel, situated at Qom, approximately 160 km in the southwest of Teheran. The American officials would pursue this project for years. But the American president would have decided to go public on Friday after Iran discovery, some weeks ago, so that the western agencies could be properly informed

The American president spoke first. - Iran continually ignores its own obligations, declared Barack Obama in a grave tone. We want that the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) conduct an immediate investigation of these malpractices. - For the White House tenant, Iranian decision is a - direct challenge to the contract of the nuclear Non-proliferation treaty -. - This contract is almost ten years in power, and thanks to it, the world is safer -, reminded the American president. - We are always ready to engage a dialogue with Iran -, reminded Barack Obama. Since its installation, the new American administration engaged a firm policy of the tightened hand with the Islamic Republic.

After Obama, Nicolas Sarkozy expressed himself: - Iran entails the international community on a dangerous way. (...) What is revealed today is exceptional -, judged the French president, who tells to expect from the IAEA a - complete and rigorous investigation. (...) We were in a grave crisis of confidence, we have found ourselves in front of a challenge launched at the international community -, warned Nicolas Sarkozy , for whom - cards should be laid out on the table. -

Finally, Gordon Brown intervened. In a more acerbic tone than his counterparts, the British Prime Minister fustigated the - unreliability of the Iranian government -. - It has been years since they deceive us, it is going to shock and irritate the international community and strengthen our determination. - The British government leader made a reference to the double game led by the Iranians, who eventually agreed that IAEA inspectors control regularly the factory of Natanz, while building another secret site for several years. - We are not going to let things go. We are ready to implement more rigorous penalties. Iran has to abandon any military ambition within the framework of its nuclear program -, estimated Gordon Brown.
