Any person can send text message with a name and phone number of a non-Muslim potentially interested in converting.
Around 5.5 thousand people in Saudi Arabia converted to Islam through a special mobile phone service called “Convert me to Islam”, local media reported on Thursday.
Service is available in 12 languages and it was launched to raise awareness about Islam among foreign nationals in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Okaz reports.
Any person can send SMS with a name and phone number of non-Muslim that they think might be interested in converting to Islam.
Preachers then contact non-Muslims and try to introduce them to Islam without revealing the identity of the person who suggested their name.
If the person indicates a desire to continue to receive phone calls, the preacher calls them again, Okaz writes, adding that they already received around 800,000 calls.
Five and a half thousand recipients of the calls converted to Islam, and the organizers of the whole “Convert me to islam” service earned 120 thousand Saudi rials (155.000 HRK).
