Barbie Dolls at Next New York Fashion Week

A novelty at the NY Fashion Week will be a fashion show of outfits for women inspired by Barbie made by 50 designers.

The Mattel toy company and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have signed a three-year sponsorship agreement. Their cooperation begins in February 2009 when the fashion season starts, as does the presenting of new fashion collections at the New York Fashion Week. The agreement was signed honouring the 50th anniversary of the sale of Barbie dolls.

A novelty will be a big fashion show outfits for women inspired by Barbie that will be made by 50 designers. The CFDA will decide which designers will take part by selecting among 350 of its members.

The rumour is that famous designers Vera Wang and Jeremy Scott already confirmed their cooperation on “project Barbie”. Wang will reportedly design wedding gowns for real, live models and the same, but smaller versions for the dolls.

Allegedly Mattel already has prepared a Barbie make-up line called “Plastic Smooth” which will be launched next year. The company is also planning to open a big Barbie house in Shanghai.
