Cell phones do not cause brain tumors

Text

Although the use of cell phones increased rapidly during 1990’s, brain tumor rates remained the same.

A big 30-year study in Scandinavia, which included almost all of its population, proved that there is no link between the use of cell phones and development of the brain tumors, scientists say.

Although the use of cell phones increased rapidly during the 1990’s, brain tumors during this period failed to become more frequent, scientists who published their findings through the American National Cancer Institute say.

The experts of the Danish Cancer Society analyzed the rate of occurrence of glioma and meningiomas in the adult population in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden from 1974 to 2003.

Brain tumor develops over a long time

Given that these countries have excellent cancer registry, it is considered that almost entire populations of these countries participated in the study, that is, a sample of around 16 million people.

- We did not find any significant change in the occurrence of brain tumors in the period from 1998 to 2003 - said Isabelle Deltour, head of research.

Scientific evidence implies that the use of cell phones over a period of ten years does not increase the risk of cancer. However, some types of brain cancer develop over a very long time and further studies on the long-term effects of cell phone use still need to conducted, scientists conclude.
