ZAGREB, Sept 23 (Hina) - Croatia has 1.563 million Facebook users, which puts it in 70th place in the world and 27th in Europe in terms of the number of registered profiles on this popular on-line social network, according to the social media statistics portal Socialbakers which analyses social networking sites in over 200 countries.
Figures show that nearly 35% of Croatia's inhabitants have a Facebook profile, which ranks it 77th in terms of the number of Facebook users in relation to the population size.
As many as 70% of Internet users in Croatia also use Facebook, and the number of Facebook users is on the constant rise, with over 31,000 new profiles opened in the last six months. It is mainly used by people aged between 18 and 24 (31%) and least by those older than 55 (only 4%), and 51% of its users are male and 49% female.
Compared to countries in its neighbourhood, Italy is ranked 11th, Hungary 40th, Serbia 46th, Bosnia and Herzegovina 75th, Albania 79th, Macedonia 83rd, Slovenia 90th and Montenegro 115th.
Socialbakers says that over 935 million people worldwide use Facebook. It is most popular in the United States (164 million), followed by Brazil and India, while the country with the smallest number of Facebook profiles (20) is the Vatican. Among European countries, Britain has the largest number of Facebook users - 39.5 million, followed by Turkey, France and Germany.
