Under pressure from dozens of thousands of users, Facebook caved and decided to put back its previous terms and conditions.
The changes the most popular internet social networking site, Facebook, introduced into its terms of use which allowed it absolute ownership rights of information, photographs and videos from user profiles even after the users close down their accounts, lasted for only one day, CNN reported.
Under pressure from users, Facebook conceded and decoded to bring back their old terms and conditions. Facebook’s new terms and conditions gave the site the right to even rent out the rights to the data from all its users. Facebook is the most popular social networking site and it has some 150 million users.
Facebook notified each user of the changes, stressing that they were only temporarily giving up on their changes to the terms and conditions they drew up.
Still, this entire case can be considered as a warning to all users of social networking sites to think twice before uploading their personal photographs and videos on their profiles.
After Facebook implemented the changes to its terms and conditions, several thousands of people closed down their accounts on Facebook, while others organised a petition against the changes, with more than 64,000 people having signed it.
