Fashion Designers Cancelling Fashion Shows

The most famous designers withdrew from fashion weeks and decided to hold small, individual fashion shows.

Betsey Johnson confirmed that she will not hold her traditional fashion show at Bryant Park during New York’s Fashion Week. But she has confirmed she will present her new collection, although she has not yet disclosed where. 

The recession has obviously affected other designers. Carmen marc Volvo also said he will not hold his show at Bryant Park where holding a fashion show costs at least 100,000 US dollars. Cacharel dropped out from the Paris Fashion Week, while Marni and Valentno are changing the format of presenting their men’s collections.

Last week, Very Wang also said she would abstain from the New York Fashion week, but will present her autumn/winter 2009 collection in her boutique on Mercer Street on February 19.

- It seems relevant today. I don't want to seem irrelevant or unaware of what's going on in the rest of the world - not just the fashion world," the designer tells WWD of the decision. "The intimacy of a smaller show feels much more appropriate for these times. I say that as a business owner, as a designer and as a person – Wang said, Vogue reports.
