First Hydrogen Fuelled Bus In Latin America

The first prototype will be on the streets in August. The new bus is 12 metres long, features 3 doors and air conditioning.

Sao Paulo government in South-Eastern Brazil has presented the first hydrogen cell fuelled bus in Latin America which will produce less noise and be safer for the environment. It will be driven in the streets of Sao Paulo, one of the most polluted cities in the world.

The first prototype will be on the streets in August. The new bus is 12 metres long, it can seat 63 passengers, features 3 doors and air conditioning. It`s line stretches across 33 kilometres.

- Brazil is one of five countries in the world that have mastered this technology and that has developed a hydrogen-powered bus– Sao Paulo governor Jose Serra said at the launch.

A city transport company has started the project which anticipates the production of three buses and one hydrogen manufacturing drive, investing 16 million dollars in it.

The project came about after an idea of decreasing air pollution caused by public transport in the city of 11 million residents and six million vehicles.
