The pill’s main ingredient is a chemical found on the ground at Easter Island, one of the most mystical places on earth.
Even though we are often bombarded with news that an elixir of youth has been found, it often turns out to be a cheap trick to make money. However, this time it seems that scientists have managed to put together a pill that will make you younger by up to ten years.
I never thought we would find an anti-ageing pill for people in my lifetime. However, rapamycin shows a great deal of promise to do just that
People cannot use the pill yet, but animals given the chemical have seen life expectancy increase by 38 percent.
On the market in ten years time
The study was carried out on laboratory mice around 600 days old, which is like it was given to people aged 60. Their maximum life span rose from 1094 to 1245 days for female mice, and 1078 to 1179 for male mice.
Even though the discovery sounds like science fiction, scientists claim that it can extend life for everyone. The drug called rapamycin, is already in use with patients that have been subject to transplants, or heart operations, and has been tested in cancer cases.
However, doctor Arlan Richardson from the University of Texas, who has been researching aging for 35 years, and has participated in this research, sees the ‘source of youth’ in it.
“I never thought we would find an anti-ageing pill for people in my lifetime. However, rapamycin shows a great deal of promise to do just that” said Richardson.
According to scientists’ predictions, the drug could be available on the market in ten years time.
