Miss Croatia: My Beloved Can Only Be Croatian

Ivana Vasilj arrived in Zagreb from Cologne and told the German media that her boyfriend can only be Croatian.

Ivana Vasilj, new Miss Croatia, has landed in Zagreb. She celebrated her victory at home in Cologne, with her family.

- It is a wonderful feeling to have a daughter who is Miss Croatia. This is the most beautiful thing that could happen to me in this life. The whole of Herzegovina celebrated with my family in Medjugorje, and my wife`s family celebrated in Lika, while we threw a big bash for our Ivana in Cologne with many relatives, friends and representatives of the German media - Mate Vasilj, Ivana`s father said.

- Some 40 people attended the celebration at the Burriger Wirtshaus restaurant in Leverkusen, owned by my parents Ruza and Mate Vasilj. It was wonderful, ever German reporters and photographers were there. I was surprised with all the media attention, the fact that the German media are so interested in the new Miss Croatia – Ivana Vasilj told us.

Ivana`s boyfriend Dario Komljenovic welcomed her in Cologne. They have been dating for two years. Her boyfriend comes from Sisak, Croatia, was born in Prijedor and has been living in Germany since he was little.

- Before I became Miss Croatia, I was a guest of the German VIVA TV network and when I was asked about my boyfriend, I replied that my boyfriend could only be Croatian – Ivana said.

I will make an effort to learn Croatian well

Ivana did not expect to become Miss Croatia. She thought to herself: „Whatever happens, happens“, and today, she still cannot believe that she is the winner.

Miss and Mister Croatia candidates objected to the fact that Ivana is not fluent in Croatia, however, the first runner up on Miss World in 1995 Anica Martinovic was not fluent in Croatian when she won at the Miss Diaspora pageant in Croatia. 

- I will make an effort to lean Croatian well soon. Anica Martinovic was my role model in everything from the word go. I saw her in 1995 when she won and am proud that I did it the same way as Miss Diaspora. I can`t say whether I will repeat her success as the first runner up of Miss World, but I have hope – Ivana Vasilj said.

Ivana Vasilj is busy these days towards sponsors and the pageant Direction. After talking with us, she stormed off to Ivica Zanetti`s hair parlour to get her hair done and then to the Sheraton hotel for a photo session for Javno.hr website.
