The raven haired Miss Japan Riyo Mori was named Miss Universe 2007 at the contest that took place in Mexico City on Monday.
The black haired Miss Japan Riyo Mori won the title of Miss Universe 2007 at the contest that took place in Mexico City on Monday. The beauty contest was accompanied by protests, forbidden dresses and one of the beauties pulling out of the competition over claims that it degrades women.
Mori (20), the 56th Miss Universe, received a 250,000 dollar crown decorated with diamonds and pearls from the hands of last year’s winner Zuleyka Rivera from Puerto Rico.
Mori, a ballet dancer from a village next to mount Fuji, wore a black evening gown with coloured straps and she dedicated her victory to her grandmother, who once also wanted to become Miss Japan.
While the beauties were coming out in their evening dresses, Miss USA Rachel Smith slipped and fell on her behind, but this did not stop her from winning the 5th place.
This year’s contest will be remembered for scandals, which included the Mexican audience whistling at Miss USA to express their dissatisfaction with the U.S. policy on immigrants.
Miss Sweden pulled out of the competition because her country had complained that the contest was degrading to women. Finally, Miss Mexico had to change the dress that she wore when they came out in regional dresses because her original dress, showing pictures of the 1920 rebellion, had drawn criticism that it was in bad taste.
You can see the winner and the other stunning beauties in the PHOTO GALLERY.
