Monogamy and Virtual Intercourse

Text

Some research indicate that 20 to 30 percent of Internet users regularly partake in some form of online sexual activities.

The virtual world has increasing conflicts with reality and they intertwine more and more. So we come to the question whether cybersex which happens in the virtual world, is endangering monogamous relationships in the real world.

Cybersex is a virtual sexual relationship that happens between two or more persons via the Internet, where they send each other explicit messages and describe sexual activities.

Monogamy is enticing

A recent study on monogamy revealed that as many as 87% of those questioned aged between 25 and 65 preferred a monogamous relationship. The research was conducted on more than 1,000 men and women.

As many as 92 percent of women said monogamy was sexy and that it was the best type of relationship especially if it has passion and intensity. The research was conducted by the company The Hearts on Fire.

More than 57% of those questioned believe that good communication is most important for a long and healthy relationship, followed by finding time for each other, compromise, passion and a satisfactory sex life.

Sex life on the Internet

`Sex` is the most frequently searched word on the Internet. Some research shows that 20 to 30 percent of Internet users regularly partakes in some form of online sexual activity. The popularity of online sexual activities lies in their availability, accessibility and anonymity.

American and Swedish research show that persons who most often become involved in sexual activities on the net have an above average education, a professional career, are sexually active and are at an average age of 30.

Men use explicit contents such as pornography more often than women, while women are more inclined to chat.

Menís primary motivation is search for sexual thrills, while women are motivated by the wish to get new acquaintances and the search for information, says research conducted by Cooper and Goodson.

Online communication

Online communication differs most from direct, face-to-face conversation due to the fact that the collocutors are not burdened by the physical component on either side. Because of this, online communication can be much more honest on the one hand, but on the other can also be pure lies. In any case, the collocutors do not need to waist time on exchanging the usual phrases as during standard acquainting, but can get to what they are interested in right away. They do not have to communicate carefully.

Also, online communication can be truncated at any time with a button. Live, that would be possible only with a gun. Because of this, online friendships are created faster but also ended faster. The emotional intensity is usually weaker than in direct communication, believes Dr. Lebowski, an associate of Cosmopolitan.

Croatians and online sex

Sociologist Aleksandar Stulhofer conducted a research in 2004 on a sample of 2,079 people who

Dr. Lebowski on cyber-sex as a form of cheating:

Regarding cheating in general, for me cheating occurs at the moment when the perpetrator becomes aware of cheating.

It is not important if it is cyber-sex, telephone sex or just fantasy. A woman can have sex outside of her relationship for ten years, but as long as she does not consider the sex cheating, it is not cheating.

Personally, I have not had any experience with cyber-sex because I just cannot remove the image of a fat, old and pimply geek jerking off on me, while he presents himself as a long-legged blonde from hairstyle School, 2c grade.

regularly visited Internet sites intended for meeting people.

The research showed that men spent more time in online sexual activities per week, which includes searching for pornographic content and erotic communication.

Women are more inclined to meeting their online friends in real life, but also to having sex. On the other hand, men use the Internet more often to meet partners than women. The research also showed that people are inclined to lie about their marital status, income, age, looks and the like in erotic communication.

Virtual intercourse as a form of cheating

The Internet site Smokva.com has 40,000 to 50,000 visitors a day. Some of them might be your spouses.

The javno news site has conducted a survey about whether readers thought cyber intercourse to be cheating. As many as 46 percent of our readers said they thought it was cheating and that they would not tolerate cyber-sex in a relationship. But 28 percent of readers believe cyber-sex to be only a form of masturbation and 13 percent believe it is not cheating because there is no physical contact.
