The Italian queen Margaret asked the best known pizza master in Naples to feed the people, and the Margarita pizza was born.
On Thursday, Naples celebrated the 120th anniversary of creating the first Margarita pizza. According to the story, the Italian queen Margherita of Savoy asked the best known pizza master to feed the people. The cook made a pizza in the colours of united Italy for the occasion: green (basil), white (mozzarella) and red (tomato), and named it after the queen. Since then the pizza has become well known all around the world.
On Thursday, a hundred or so entertainers circulated around the city in clothing that was work back at that time, and a false queen rode around in a horse and carriage though Naples’ streets.
The pizzeria Brandi, where Raffaele Esposito Brandi made the first Margarita, is a must see location for tourists, and is often visited by the Italian political and film elite.
