Barbie dolls have long since successfully invaded private women`s space and became global toys, influencing generations of women.

Bettina Dorfmann from Duesseldorf has collected 6,000 Barbie dolls and topped the list of famous doll collectors. All her Barbie dolls wear different outfits and the collectionaire dressed them up especially for this occasion.

Barbie dolls have long since successfully invaded private women`s space and became global toys, influencing generations of women. Whether dark-skinned, Japanese or Malaysian Barbie, they come in all shapes, but still the blonde model is always the favourite.

Barbie was introduced in advertisements as a role model, the best friend or the older sister to little girls. TV advertisements used the song “I want to be just like you” and Barbie look-a-like competitions and similar clothes help girls to live out their Barbie fantasy.

This global toy has become a celebrated figure among avant-garde and pop artists, inspiring a development of the Barbie satire genre, known as Barbie noir.
