PHOTO: Gemma Ward Not Leaving Runway For Hollywood

According to Susie Deveridge, Gemma is not replacing the slippery catwalk for the red carpet, after acting lessons with Nicole Kidman.

According to news of the Pedestrian web site, the queen of catwalks and editorials Gemma Ward is officially retiring. An insider said that Gemma`s pension only refers to the fashion industry, which she would replace with Hollywood. Surely, many wonder why the official announcement when she makes 10,000 to 20,000 dollars for just ten minutes of walking at a fashion show?

However, Gemma`s agent Susie Deveridge, of her home agency Viviens models in Sydney, dismissed the disputable news for Javno web site:

A model from another dimension

Australian model Gemma was given her first film role in 2001`s Pink Pyjamas, after which a trip to Hollywood followed and the role in `Strangers` in which the famous model was face to face with actress Liv Tyler.

Nevertheless, as Gemma has not had enough of the film studio lights, young Australian director Elissa Down has written `The Black Balloon` only for her. The film was screened for the first time at the Berlin International Film Festival in February this year, when it won the Crystal Bear for best under 14 feature film. The plot follows a young man struggling with providing care for his autistic brother, with the help of his girlfriend, played by Gemma. The film, which was given excellent reviews, also features Antonia Collette, Luke Ford, Rhys Wakefield and Erik Thomson.

Even though she was busy with acting, Gemma, who is described by British photographer Nick Knight as a model from another dimension, posed for Dolce & Gabbana`s 2008 spring/summer campaign, as well as for Karl Lagerfeld. However, the fact that Susie Deveridge did not wish to comment that the face which was featured on 24 Vogue covers throughout the world is not on the list of hired models for the 2008/2009 autumn/winter campaigns. One thing is fore sure, 20-year-old Gemma, who was tenth in Forbes` list of top 15 models of the world with highest profits of 3 million dollars in 12 months, will not replace the slippery catwalks for the festivals` red carpet, after taking acting lessons from Nicole Kidman, according to Susie Deveridge.
