STARS DRAW ATTENTION
FEBRUARY 26 2009 08:29h
Just a day before the opening, Cavalli cancelled the long-awaited collection for youth.
Milan Fashion Week, which starts on Wednesday and ends on March 3, will feature some 80 fashion homes and their womenswear collections for the 2009/2010 season.
While top homes like Armani, Versace and Gucci will actively take part in the event, Roberto Cavalli cancelled his “Just Cavalli” fashion show for youth, because of distribution problems. Still, his main collection will be presented after all.
- Milan has 10 more collections than before the crisis. People do not have the negative sentiment that they had before Christmas which affected January's (menswear) shows – said the head of the Chamber of Fashion, Mario Boselli. The Italian fashion industry and the owner of Sistema Mosa Italia, the textile and clothing department are seeking help from the government, because the global crisis has penetrated the world of fashion. They will hold a meeting with the Ministry of Economy this week, but a drop of financial income by five percent is expected.
Optimistic after all
While the situation is still rather hazy due to the crisis, it is expected that famous stars will compensate this glimpse of glamour which the fashion week still lacks. Young designers will open Milan Fashion Week and celebrities will be hosting the programmes.
