PhotoThe artist Marc Quinn unveiled a statue made from gold that depicts the supermodel Kate Moss.
The gold statue that depicts the supermodel Kate Moss is called “Siren”, and we uncovered in London as a part of the exhibit of modern art in the British museum.
The exhibition “statuephilia” can be seen from this October 4 to January 25, 2009. The statue that is signed by the Briton Marc Quinn, is also the largest gold statue since Egyptian time, and weighs 50 kilograms and is worth 1.5 million dollars.
“I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment” said Quinn.
Last year, Kate Moss served as a model for the first sculpture “Myth (Sypinx)” that depicts the icon in a yoga pose, made from bronze and coloured in white. The name bears the question of the existence of something from her perfect face and always posing exterior, which is exactly what every artist must avoid. Quinn succeeded in his intent, he presented her in a way that allows you to recognize her trademark – her face.
Even though artists do not pay attention to photo models often, Kate Moss proved to be a real exception to the rule. She is only a commercial model, but this did not stop many artists showing her in their own way, and in doing so take her into the most common motifs of modern British art.
