The Germany company hired US singer Pink to present its city car, despite the crisis.

American singer Pink did the most important part of the job at the Geneva Auto Show, she presented the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Polo. The most important novelty of the VW Group and one of the show`s stars is 7.6 percent lighter than its predecessor, despite being somewhat wider and longer. The power behind the throne of Volkswagen design, Walter de Silva, an Italian whom we remember for designing the Alfa 156 and 147, as well as Audi A5, did an excellent job.

The new Volkswagen Polo looks great, and unlike the current model, it is not just a pale version of the VW, but a car which will appeal to persons who were previously not inclined towards Das Auto. The interior is a combination of elements present in VWs, and for the first time, it can be ordered with a touch screen which also controls navigating.

The new Polo is 3,952 mm longer (16 mm more than its predecessor) and 1,682 mm wider (a 32 mm increase), but it is 13 mm lower (1454 mm). By widening and lowering it, Da Silva achieved a more aggressive and dynamic appearance of the Polo car. Volkswagen claims that the interior brings more room for the head, legs and shoulders.

Common-rail diesel engines

The trunk`s volume is 280 litres, at least, while 952 litres can be achieved if the back bench is taken down. There are several engines on offer. In this class, traditionally the most interesting petrol-engines start with a 1.2 atmosphere engine in two versions – with 60 and 70 horsepowers. The VW also offers a TSI engine (turbo charger) with 105 horsepowers.

This is the only engine which will come with a six-degree shift stick, while all others will have shift sticks with five degrees.

The new Polo will include ABS, ESP, Isofix system of attaching baby seats and four airbags, all part of the series package. Sales will start in June throughout Europe.
