PHOTO: Vivienne Is Not Dead!

Text

The immortal Westwood has presented another collection full of provocations during the Paris Fashion Week.

Vivienne is one of the designers that can say that they have brought magic into the world of fashion with their magic wands. That magic will not ever stop, not even when midnight rings. We can see that for the last 26 years, Vivienne’s pumpkins have not only turned into wagons, but Mercedes A classes. She was, and will remain the queen of fashion style.

The queen of kings

Westwood moved to London with her parents when she was 17. She studied at today’s Westminster, and then in Trent Park. She worked as a school teacher.

After her first unsuccessful marriage, she met Malcom McLaren, who influenced the further development of her career. Malcom, who is well known as the manager of the Sex Pistols, opened a store called “Let It Rock” in 1971. There, Vivienne started to sell her first reconstructed clothing items.

It was her who gave punk music clothing! Westwood and McLaren raised the dust of the fashion revolution, whose influence can be felt today.

In 1981, Vivienne presented her first collection “Piruate”, which proved that her style is not only youth street culture, but traditional as well.

Because she like her profession as a teacher, she showed that through her clothing items, so that each of them shows a certain message, either direct or indirect. In September 2005, she said with her designs: “I AM NOT A TERRORIST, please don’t arrest me!”, and raised a lot of media dust.

Spring/Summer 2008 collection

Vivienne presented her new collection for spring/summer 2008 during the Fashion Week in Paris. Her fashion style is reinforced by baroque and rococo costumes from the 18th century. She takes certain details and modernizes them with her wild spirit. She takes the wires out of crinoline, and gains the volume by layers of rough décor fabrics. Her finishing touches remain asymmetric, and her clothing bears print with a message.

Fashion is for Westwood, La Revolution!
