The credit crunch did not hit Chanel, but it did damage the creativity of its head Karl Lagerfeld.
Chanel may have cancelled its `Mobile Art` project as a result of the economic crisis, but as the season for presenting new collections approaches, Karl Lagerfeld announced to the world that it can still expect something spectacular. Namely, no crisis has prevented Lagerfeld from turning the catwalk into a real work of art.
- We have no budget. We do what we want and throwing money out the window brings money back in through the front door. The bottom line is I don't deal with the bottom line. The luxury in my life is I never have to think about it – Lagerfeld said.
However, the German designer also announced the audience should not expect a spectacle from his upcoming fashion show. Although the recession did not affect the business of the French fashion home, it did affect his creativity.
- Bling is over. Red-carpety-covered-with-rhinestones is out. I call it 'the new modesty – Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld told the International Herald Tribune, Vogue writes.
