Text
The handbook offers advice on how to protect oneself and children from ex-spouse’s badmouthing. It was written by Dr. Richard A. Warshak.
- Those bad parents will, unfortunately, learn nothing from this book because they don’t care what their child is going through. The justice system should act here, while for others, the book will be useful – said Asenka Kramer, English language professor and chairwoman of the association “Child – Divorce”, at the presentation of Richard A. Warshak’s book “Divorce Poison”.
She translated and edited the book for the “Algoritam” publishing company. The book is intended for divorced parents to help them make their children’s lives easier without one parent.
The author of the foreword to the book, Dr. Gordana Buljan Flander, director of the Zagreb Polyclinic for the Protection of Children, was also at the presentation. She stressed the importance of a child not losing either parent during the divorce.
- During his 25 years of helping various families Dr. Richard A. Warshak became convinced that a passive approach in parents breeds helplessness in themselves and harms children, more so if the child’s carer uses them as a tool to fight the former partner. For such situations, Dr. Warshak advises how to recognise signs of alienation in children, how to stop the ex-partner from badmouthing the other and recommends strategies and practical advices on how to maintain and re-establish a loving relationship with your child if the child no longer lives with you.
Besides the translated book of the American family therapist, the book also includes expert advice from lawyers, a social worker and psychologist, as well as an extensive list of Croatian institutions in charge of issues of divorce and child custody.
