Usually, salt ends up in coffee by mistake, but not in Taiwan. Salt was used to enrich the taste of this warm drink.
Coffee enthusiasts used to sugar now have another option – they can put some salt in it!
The Bakery Café offers a drink for 1.15 dollars with grind sea salt added in the foam to give the drink an interesting and rich taste which will satisfy demanding customers, searching for new flavours in this highly competitive market, at least when it comes to coffee.
Salted coffee to conquer the world
- Taiwanese are very greedy, so they want lots of flavours in one mouthful – Kathy Chung said, who works for the Bakery Café.
- Also we have a lot of products, more than 50 kinds of drink, and our boss is always pressuring us to keep coming up with new things – Chung added.
According to Chung, salt is healthy and the company believes that this manner of consuming coffee might become a habit for many people. Although the guests were a bit surprised, there were no complaints so far.
Salted coffee will be launched in Shanghai and Australian shops this year. If this seems odd, it is good to know that certain Taiwan manufacturers use beans which were previously chewed by monkeys, which gives coffee a naturally sweet taste.
