She Chooses Safety, He Chooses Speed

Men drive more aggressively than women, for them the car is a symbol of masculinity.

The war between the sexes often takes place in the car. Then the co-driver of one sex usually nags the driver of the opposite sex about the way that they drive. New research shows that the differences in driving between men and women are genetic.

Psychologists claim that men and women need to accept the differences in their way of driving. Men often drive fast, and are closer to the car in front of them, and also shout and comment a lot during their driving.

This is because just like their ancestors, they can estimate distances better. That ability probably remains from the time when they had to scan the horizon in search of prey.

Women are much more careful when driving. Psychologists explain this with the fact that they are programmed to take more responsibility and care for the children and the weaker members of the family.

Women and homosexuals drive bad?

Men are often more aggressive drivers than women, and the Berlin psychologist Konad Sprai explains this by saying that most men see their car as a symbol of their masculinity. Women on the other hand, see a car as a practical thing that makes certain life situations easier, and saves time.

A recent study by scientists from London showed that women and homosexual men are bad drivers. What the study showed is that they are poor at finding their way in a certain space, and tasks that demand navigation.

It has been proven that heterosexual men act better in an unknown room than women and homosexual men.

Society is to blame for poor female drivers?

Certain sociologists believe that the differences in the way that men and women drive can be blamed on society or upbringing. They claim that parents bring children up differently. Boys are raised different from girls, and the way they drive is one of the effects of this. Besides that, there is a lot of criticism of stereotypes and prejudices, which can appear in the form of jokes “women are bad drivers”, and a great number of women become bad drivers because of this, and develop insecurity because of this. In sociology this is called “theory of labelling”.

Criteria when buying a car

In the whole world the number of female drivers is rising, whilst the number of male drivers is falling. Besides that, women when choosing a car buy more sporty cars.

Women buy cars that they think are well built, have greater endurance, safety, number of seats. When buying a car, the most important thing for them is safety.

Men are inclined to buy more expensive cars, cars that seem more comfortable, that look nice from the outside, and sends a message about a certain “image”.

As far as sexes and traffic accidents, there are no great differences. The most risky groups are young, inexperienced drivers as well as older drivers.
