Persons suffering from spring depression feel tension and anxiety, they lack interest in daily activities and withdraw themselves.
Many people feel a change in their mood when spring comes and find it hard to focus on every-day chores like they normally do. This is called seasonal depression, often called the season affective disorder which occurs every season at the same time. It normally starts during winter and ends at the end of spring.
- Persons suffering from seasonal depression usually have the common signs of depression like tension and anxiety, lack of interest in daily activities, they withdraw themselves from social relationship, find it hard to concentrate and display virtually no will for the pleasures of life. They often feel that they have a lack of energy, their need for sleep is increased, along with the desire to be alone – psychologist Lovorka Brajkovic told us, adding that the symptoms of seasonal depression often occur in women between the ages of 30 and 40. Also, the disorder is more frequent in women who live in the North.
Fatigue is a consequence of dull diet and lack of vitamins
Depression and a bad mood should be differentiated. Spring fatigue is often mistaken for spring depression, which is not a synonym by all means. We frequently feel fatigue in the spring, which can result in the feeling of dissatisfaction, sorrow, being slowed down, being quick-tempered and find it hard to concentrate. Seeing how we often change our moods, we are prone to writing these symptoms down to depression.
- Spring fatigue usually appears as a consequence of a dull diet, lack of vitamins, above all Vitamin C in winter months. Persons who are otherwise sensitive to weather changes usually suffer from spring fatigue. A bad mood does not necessarily have to lead to reduced every-day activities, but spring fatigue often leads to a drop of efficiency – Brajkovic told us.
Spend time outdoors and in daylight
If you have identified yourselves with some of these symptoms, it is time you woke up and snapped from the melancholy. The best way of beating spring fatigue and depression is by intaking sufficient amounts of vitamins, especially Vitamin C, and by exposing yourselves to sunlight; spend time outdoors and increase physical activity.
Some studies show that taking a shower with hot and cold water in turns can be helpful in the morning, just as rubbing your body with a towel to start circulation in your entire organism.
