If you ever caught yourself talking to yourself, you were probably lonely or just wanted to think about your actions, experts claim.
Every single one of us has caught themselves talking to themselves, out loud. This subject is talked about, but not written about. We were wondering what was the reason behind this and where the desire to state our thoughts out loud comes from.
Several experts introduced us to the subject. Although they offered various answers, every one was right.
Neuropsychiatrist Boris Jerbic provided a simple and actually logical explanation.
- Someone usually talks to themselves when they are upset, worried, and overwrought. Also, it is possible that the person wants support or they speak in hope that someone else might hear them –
Jerbic explained that talking to ourselves is normal and that it is natural for a person to have a spiritual side and opinions they think about silently or out loud.
Psychiatrist Jadranka Jelcic of Pula believes it is necessary for a person to talk to themselves in order to hear themselves. At the same time, it is important to think about actions and maintain control over them. Jelcic warns that “the talker” should address a psychiatrist only when talking to themselves out loud becomes too frequent.
If we have nobody around or are lonely, we share our thoughts with ourselves
Psychiatrist Zelimir Skocilic believes that taking to ourselves is praise-worthy, especially if it has positive effects. The important thing is to know how to say “bravo” to ourselves after a good job. However, he points out that people talk to themselves when they are lonely.
- Persons who talk to themselves probably do not have anyone to share their opinion with. Lonely people start expressing their thoughts out loud. There are situations when an individual expresses their thoughts with a subconscious desire to especially emphasise this opinion. People often want to hear what they are thinking about. Skocilic claims that the reason behind this is the fact that our intrapsychic life is too rich, thus we speak out loud because of active thinking.
