All World Handball Championship favourites placed themselves in the second round.
Group A
Slovenia beat Tunisia in a direct skirmish for the first place, with 34-27 and takes two points into the second round. In an interesting match, Slovenians had the score under control the whole time and winning was not questioned for a single moment. Jure Natek was the best player with eight goals, while the best African champion was Haykei Mgannem with six scores. In the struggle for third position, Kuwait convincingly overcame Greenland with 39-27.
Group B
Islandians placed themselves in the second round by winning over France 32-24, and they will start with two points. Olafur Steffanson shook the net six times, while Michael Guigou was the best player of the French team, which also passes on. In the second group meeting, Ukrainians beat Australia with 37-18.
Group C
German hosts, in spite of the great referee help, did not manage to defeat excellent Polls, and are heading for the second round with zero points. In an interesting game in front of a crowded audience in Halle, they did not succeed in breaking down the Polish resistance. Although they took the lead in the middle of the second half, they did not know how to finish the game. With the victory 27-25, Karol Bielcki was the best player, while the host Florian Kehrmann scored seven goals. In the second group meeting Argentineans celebrated 22-20 over Brazil.
Group D
World champions Spaniards were breaking down the Czech resistance for a long time, in order to make the victory of 35-29 look more convincing than the actual state. It is clear to see the title defenders are still searching for their shape, their best player Iker Romero above all, who scored only six goals today. In a meeting with the Czech, our players should especially watch out for Jan Filip who put nine goals in the Spanish net. In the second group meeting Egypt overcame Qatar, 35-24.
Group E
Hungarians are taking two points from this group with them, which is no surprise. Today, they overcame Angola in a review match with 34-31, while the struggle for the second round was fought between Denmark and Norway. A lot of changes in the lead and a rough match because of high stakes still headed the Danish way with 27-25. Within the victorious team, Lars Christensen was best with six goals, while Andre Jorgensen scored seven times for the opposing team.
