The seven-times Tour de France winner finished in the pack after the 51 kilometre race around the city streets of Adelaide.

Lance Armstrong made his return to professional cycling on Sunday, finishing back in the peloton of the Tour Down Under's criterium.

The seven-times Tour de France winner finished in the pack after the 51 kilometre race around the city streets of Adelaide.

The criterium for the six-stage Tour Down Under was won by Australia's Robbie McEwen.

Armstrong retired from racing after winning the 2005 Tour de France but announced late last year he was making a comeback at the age of 37.

The first stage of the 800km Tour Down Under starts on Tuesday.
