Inter Milan are one win away from retaining Serie A title, while Manchester United closed in on the Premier League crown.
SPAIN
Barcelona's first chance to wrap up the Primera Liga title went begging on Sunday after Villarreal came back to scramble a last minute 3-3 draw at the Nou Camp.
The leaders needed a win after chasing Real Madrid slumped to a 3-0 defeat in Valencia on Saturday when Juan Mata, David Silva and Ruben Baraja routed Juande Ramos's outfit.
Barca started well moving into a 3-1 lead just before halftime after goals from Seydou Keita, Samuel Eto'o and Daniel Alves.
But Eric Abidal gave away a penalty and was sent off with 12 minutes to go and Matias Fernandez converted from the spot before Joseba Llorente lashed a dramatic equaliser for the visitors.
With an eight point lead over Real and three games left to play, Barca need one point unless their arch-rivals slip up.
ENGLAND
Manchester United need just four points from their remaining three matches to retain the title after cruising to a 2-0 derby win over Manchester City on Sunday, a victory that lifted them back above Liverpool.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez scored the goals to answer Liverpool's 3-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday which briefly knocked them off the top.
United have 83 points with three games left and Liverpool are on 80 but with just two games remaining. England midfielder Steven Gerrard scored twice for Rafael Benitez's side at Upton Park.
Chelsea (77 points) are assured of finishing at least third after a 4-1 victory at fourth-placed Arsenal, their biggest league victory away to the north London club since 1970.
At the bottom West Bromwich Albion gave themselves a chance of survival with a 3-1 win over Wigan Athletic, lifting them to just three points behind fourth-bottom Hull City and level with Newcastle United and Middlesbrough who meet on Monday.
ITALY
Inter Milan are just a win away from their fourth straight Serie A title after a 2-2 draw at Chievo was followed by second-placed AC Milan being held 1-1 by Juventus.
Strikers Hernan Crespo and Mario Balotelli made light of the absence of suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic by twice putting Inter in front but Chievo fought back to show why they have dragged themselves away from the relegation zone.
In an often end-to-end encounter at the San Siro, Milan went ahead through Clarence Seedorf only for Vincenzo Iaquinta to head in a quick equaliser for stuttering Juve.
With three to play, Fiorentina in fourth are just three behind third-placed Juve after a 2-0 win at Catania while AS Roma's Champions League qualification hopes are over following a 2-2 draw at Cagliari.
GERMANY
League leaders VfL Wolfsburg slumped to a spectacular 4-1 defeat against VfB Stuttgart, with striker Mario Gomez grabbing all four goals, staying top only on goal difference with three matches left.
Champions Bayern Munich caught up with Wolfsburg with a convincing 3-1 win at Energie Cottbus, their second victory in two games under interim coach Jupp Heynckes. The win lifted them level on 60 points.
Hertha Berlin beat VfL Bochum 2-0 to remain in the hunt for their first championship since 1931, a point behind the leaders.
Stuttgart are in fourth, two points off the pace at 58 while Hamburg SV dropped to sixth, five points behind the leaders, after losing 2-0 to Werder Bremen.
NETHERLANDS
Champions AZ Alkmaar finished their season in style with a 3-0 home victory over Heerenveen, with Mounir El Hamdaoui opening the scoring with his 23rd league goal of the season.
Those finishing in sixth to ninth place -- Groningen, Feyenoord, NAC Breda and Utrecht -- qualified for a playoff for one Europa League preliminary round spot.
At the bottom, Volendam were relegated despite a 2-2 draw at Graafschap Doetinchem as they were leapfrogged by Roda JC Kerkrade who grabbed a lifeline by beating Feyenoord 3-2.
SCOTLAND
Rangers moved two points clear of Celtic in the title race after a 1-0 home victory over their fierce rivals.
Steven Davis scored the winner which gave Rangers the edge with three games of the season remaining.
UKRAINE
Dynamo Kiev won their 13th Ukrainian league title with three games to spare after a 90th-minute goal from midfielder Alexander Aliyev gave them a 3-2 win over Tavria Simferopol.
The victory left Dynamo 12 points ahead of traditional rivals and last season's champions Shakhtar Donetsk, who beat them 3-2 on aggregate in their UEFA Cup semi-final last week.
Dynamo had to work hard for their win and twice came from behind before Aliyev struck the winner with an unstoppable shot from 30 metres.
RUSSIA
CSKA Moscow came from behind to win 2-1 at city rivals Dynamo and go top, a point ahead of Zenit St Petersburg and FK Moscow, while fourth-placed champions Rubin Kazan are two points adrift before their home game against Tom Tomsk on Monday.
Headers by Czech substitute Tomas Necid and defender Vasily Berezutsky handed CSKA the win after Dmitry Kombarov had fired Dynamo into an early lead.
Second-half goals from Konstantin Zyryanov and Pavel Pogrebnyak steered Zenit to a 2-0 home win over Krylya Sovietov Samara while hosts FK Moscow were held to a goalless draw by neighbours Lokomotiv.
POLAND
A four-way title race is set to go down the wire after champions Wisla Krakow beat bitter rivals Legia Warsaw 1-0 to leapfrog them into the driving seat, with Lech Poznan also staying in the hunt after a 2-0 win at Slask Wroclaw.
Wisla have 55 points with three games left while Lech and Legia are on 54 each and Polonia Warsaw, who have 50, kept alive their own hopes with a 1-0 home win over Belchatow.
Brazilian defender Antonio Marcelo struck a close-range winner for Wisla in the first half and their keeper Mariusz Pawelek produced a superb save to deny the league's top scorer Takesure Chinyama at the other end.
BULGARIA
Levski Sofia beat leaders and city rivals CSKA 2-0 away to close the gap to one point and throw their two-horse title race wide open with four games remaining.
Georgi Hristov, who came on as a 14th-minute substitute, gave Levski the lead with an opportunistic finish and Brazilian strike partner Ze Soares sealed the win on the hour.
