Bartoli in, Kuznetsova out in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- No. 4 seed Marion Bartoli of France advanced easily but sixth-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova fell in an upset Monday in first-round action at the New Haven Open.

Bartoli, who reached the Wimbledon semifinals last month, breezed past Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 6-1, 6-4 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University.

Kuznetsova fell to American Christina McHale 7-5, 6-3. The Russian two-time Grand Slam champion won the New Haven event in 2007.

Fifth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Russian Ekaterina Makarova and No. 8 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova logged a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 come-from-behind victory over Vera Dushevina.

Roberta Vinci of Italy rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision over Czech Lucie Hradecka and Slovenian Polona Hercog bested Nadia Petrova 7-5, 7-5 on Day 2.
