Branka Vlasic Won fifth Place in the High Jump at the European Championship. Hellebaut was first, the only one to jump over 199 cm
Our very own Blanka did not win the medal to crown her tough sports preparations and a good entry into the season. The competition opened with the starting height of 182 centimetres with which Blanka had no problem. You could tell it was not her best day when she upset the cross bar at the height of 187 cm in the first attempt. The cross bar was than raised to 192 centimetres, and she jumped over it the first attempt. The first high jump for whom it was too high a bar was Mendia. On 196 cm, Vlasic upset the crossbar three times, although this is usually not a problem for her to master it. Skotnik and Cicerova also had to say good bye to the competition at that height.
The four jumpers thus remained in the race for medals – Hellebaut, Beitia, Veneva and di Martino. The only one who successfully mastered 199 was Tia Hellebat, who had another gold medal after the in-door competition in Birmingham. Silver goes to Italy to Antonietti di Martino, and bronze to Veneva.
The final order:
1. Hellebaut Tia BEL 1.99
2. di Martino Antonietta ITA 1.96
3. Veneva Venelina BUL 1.96
4. Beitia Ruth SPA 1.96
5. Vlašić Blanka CRO 1.92
6. Skotnik Melanie FRA 1.92
6. Čičerova Anna RUS 1.92
8. Mendía, Marta SPA 1.87
