Catania will play the rest of this season's games in neutral venues and will have to pay a 50,000 euro fine.
The Italian Football Association's disciplinary committee has decided to suspend the Massimino Stadium until June 30, 2007, after the violence during the game with Palermo, which led to the death of a policeman. Catania players will therefore play on neutral venues, without spectators.
The gravity of the ruling was also effected by the Sicilian first league club's previous two-game spectator ban, after the club's fans had clashed with the fans of the other two Sicilian clubs, Palermo and Messina. Catania will be without Serie A football for the remainder of the season, which has caused a revolt in the south of Italy because the heads of the club and of the city find the decision on the part of the north of Italy to be even racist because the latter do not want strong clubs from the south in Serie A.
Catania will play the following game against Turin in Rimini and the one against Inter in Cesena.
