Celtics sign Pietrus

BOSTON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The Boston Celtics, dealing with the loss of Jeff Green to heart surgery, said Saturday they signed guard/forward Mickael Pietrus.

The NBA club did not reveal how much it will pay the former first-round draft pick or how long his contract is for.

The 6-foot-6 Pietrus, who averaged 7.2 points last season for Orlando and Phoenix and 8.5 points for his career, had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this past summer. The injury led Toronto to back out of a deal for him with Phoenix.

"We are very excited to be able to add Mickael to our team," said Danny Ainge, the Celtics' president of basketball operations. "His skills as a perimeter defender and an outside shooter provide great versatility to the roster."

Green is lost for the season.
