The Bulls, who had won a game against California Wednesday just to get into the 64-team bracket, scored only 15 points in the first half against the Owls.
South Florida then produced 43 points in the second period to add another surprise to Friday's list of unexpected results. The Bulls are seeded only 12th in the Midwest Region.

Temple (24-8), which won the regular-season crown in the Atlantic 10 Conference only to lose in the tourney quarterfinals, got 19 points from Khalif Wyatt.
South Florida recovered from its terrible start to shoot 34 percent for the game and to hit 8-of-17 from 3-point range. The teams combined to make a mere 32 field goals, 17 of them coming from the Bulls.
