INDIANAPOLIS, April 6 (UPI) -- Danielle Adams scored 30 points Tuesday and Texas A&M claimed its first NCAA women's basketball championship with a 76-70 victory over Notre Dame.

Tyra White contributed 18 points and drained a crucial 3-pointer late in the game to ice the win for the second-seeded Aggies (33-5), who stunned top-seeded Stanford to reach the national final.

Texas A&M had also downed No. 1 seed Baylor en route to the victory.

Notre Dame (31-8) got 23 points from Skylar Diggins and 21 from Devereaux Peters but it wasn't enough for the Irish to win their first title since 2001.

Notre Dame gained the championship game after shocking top-ranked Connecticut Sunday in the national semifinals.
