Natalie Coughlin of the United States broke her own world record for 100 metres backstroke.

Natalie Coughlin of the United States broke her own world record for 100 metres backstroke at the world swimming championships on Tuesday.

Coughlin won the gold medal in 59.44 seconds to shave 0.14 seconds off the previous record of 59.58 she set at Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2002.
