Croatia fought for its sixth victory in Germany. They toiled over the 31-29 result against the Czechs.
The Czechs proved a tougher nut to crack than expected. A day of rest seemed insufficient for the Croatians who started off the game without much interest.
Lackovic granted Croatians the advantage of 6-0 and everything proceeded in the usual rhythm until after the seventh minute when Croatia was leading 5-2. Balic lost a ball and three minutes later, the Czechs equalise the score at 5-5. Another equalising occurred at the result 10-10. The half-time ended with a result of 14-11 for the Croatians.
The second half seemed a copy of the first. The Czechs again managed to level the score at 18-18 and Croatia’s coach Lino Cervar decides for a change of goalies. Enter Jerkovic who begins with an excellent save immediately. But, little help he did as the torment continues and Croatians change their formation to 6-0. The levelled result continued all the way to the 50th minute when Balic hit two, rising the score to 26-24. The Croatians returned to their original formation.
The Croatians grew tired, but in a crucial moment, Zrnic hits the goal for a four advantage, four minutes before the end of the game. The game ended with a score of 31-26.
Croatians will play against Spain on Sunday, the last game of the round.
