`He`s not yet fully fit,` Tarpishchev said of the world number five, who returned to tour last week.

Russia's top player Nikolay Davydenko will miss next month's Davis Cup first-round tie against Romania, team captain Shamil Tarpishchev said on Thursday.

"He's not yet fully fit," Tarpishchev said of the world number five, who returned to tour last week after being sidelined for almost two months with a foot injury.

"Hopefully, he'll be available for the next round if we get through."

Tarpishchev called up world number 26 Marat Safin, 29th-ranked Dmitry Tursunov, Teimuraz Gabashvili (60) and Mikhail Youzhny (62) for the March 6-8 tie in Sibiu, Romania.

Russia, who won the last of their two Davis Cup titles in 2006, lost to Argentina in last year's semi-finals.
