Deans tells Wallabies to raise their game

Australia coach Robbie Deans has insisted the Wallabies will have to step up a notch after naming his side to play Ireland in Dublin here on Sunday.

That victory saw Deans's men off to a successful start in their bid to match the 1984 Wallabies, so far the only Australia side to complete a grand slam of wins over the four Home Unions of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, on the one tour.

But Ireland, the reigning Six Nations grand slam champions after a clean sweep of Europe's elite earlier this year, are likely to prove a tougher nut to crack than England.

- Getting a result last weekend was a great confidence booster for the whole squad, but we know that the standard we produced last week won't be good enough against this Irish team - said Deans.

- There was an uncertainty about England, in terms of the transitional nature of their development as a team, that doesn't pertain to Ireland - the former New Zealand international added.

- The Irish are an established and experienced combination who are used to winning, and expect to win, every time they play. -

However, Australia will have some inside information on Ireland, who've won their last eight Tests from their captain, Rocky Elsom.

The back-row forward was a key member of the Dublin-based Leinster side, also featuring Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll, that won last season's European Cup.

- The game in Ireland is on a massive high at the moment - Deans said.

- Ireland did the Six Nations Grand Slam earlier in the year, while the country has also provided the last two European Cup winners (Munster and Leinster) - he added.

- The Irish team has momentum - having won its last eight Test matches - and it has the confidence that mastering the art of winning consistently brings. - Playing them now is a great challenge, but one that we are all looking forward to. -

Pocock, 21, will be making his fourth start in his last five Tests.

Deans had previously made it clear it was unreasonable to ask either of his opensides to start in all of the five internationals in as many weeks (the Wallabies lost to New Zealand in Tokyo before arriving in Europe) that make up this tour.
