Novak Djokovic maintained his record of always reaching the third round at Wimbledon.
The 20-year-old Serbian fourth seed, tipped as the man most likely to break the Federer-Nadal grand slam stranglehold, did not have things all his own way against the hard-serving Delic.
After winning the first set, courtesy of converting a solitary break point he was then pegged back after a lapse on serve at the start of the second.
Bosnia-born Delic, one of only three American men to reach the second round, could not sustain his challenge in the third set as Djokovic demonstrated his array of weapons.
Djokovic, a semi-finalist at the French Open earlier this month, was pushed all the way in the fourth set but came through the tiebreak unscathed.
He will play Germany's Nicolas Kiefer for a place in the fourth round.
