The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), at its council meeting, also chose Istanbul to host the 2012 indoor world championships.
Amman was named as host of the 2009 world cross-country championships. The Jordanian capital submitted the only bid.
Valencia will host the next world indoor championships in March 2008, while London will host the world cross-country championships in the same month.
