MIAMI, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Brian Daboll, who ran Cleveland's offense the past two seasons, was hired Wednesday as offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins.

Dolphins Coach Tony Sparano cited Daboll's "tremendous knowledge of our division, which is very important" when he announced the hiring.

The Dolphins ranked 21st in total offense and 30th in scoring last season under Dan Henning, who retired. Cleveland was ranked 29th in total offense under Daboll.

Daboll said he looks forward to getting to know the players and getting to work.

"There's going to be a variety of things we're going to try to accomplish with this offense," he said. "We're going to do our due diligence to get this offense going."

Daboll lost his job with the Browns when Eric Mangini was fired at the conclusion of the 2010 season.

Before his stint in Cleveland, Daboll coached with the New York Jets and New England.
