Tommy Haas has won the ATP tournament in Memphis and leaped to the third place on the Race ladder.
Haas has defended the Memphis champion title, which he had won last year, by defeating Andy Roddick 6-3, 6-2 in only 61 minutes in the finals. This is the third time he has won the Memphis champion title. He won his first in 1999.
In five matches, Haas did not lose a single set. It is even more fascinating that he did not give any of his opponents so much as a chance for a break point. The 28-year-old German is now on his way to breaking the record set by Jimmy Connors, who had won four titles in Memphis (in 1978, 1979, 1983, and 1984).
Juan Monaco has won the first champion title of his career in his home town, Buenos Aires, by defeating the Italian Alessio di Mauro 6-1, 6-2. Monaco is the third Argentinian to win the Buenos Aires tournament in the last four years. Those who did it before him are Gaston Gaudio, two years ago, and Guillermo Coria, three years ago.
