New York Islanders Jack Hillen will be out of action for up to eight weeks after taking a slap shot from Alex Ovechkin to the face.
New York Islanders defenseman Jack Hillen will miss six to eight weeks with a broken jaw after taking a slap shot from Washington and Russia star Alex Ovechkin to the face.
The Islanders said Wednesday that the Hillen was still in hospital after surgery on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old was hurt in the first period of the Islanders' 7-2 home NHL loss to the Capitals. He was expected to be released from hospital on Thursday.
Hillen was standing in front of his goaltender when he was hit in the chin.
He immediately fell to the ice and a pool of blood formed as medical staff treated him before helping him off the ice.
The Capitals were on the powerplay when Ovechkin wound up for a slapshot just inside the Islanders' blueline.
