Man admits knifing West Ham player

Whitehurst, 25, faces a substantial prison sentence, Judge John Bevan told Luton Crown Court.

A man pleaded guilty on Monday to a knife attack on West Ham defender Calum Davenport which left the former England Under-21 international with wounds on both legs.

Worrell Whitehurst, the boyfriend of Davenport's sister, admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Davenport on August 22.

He also pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Davenport's mother, 49-year-old Kim Stupple, in the incident in Bedford, southeast England.

Whitehurst, 25, faces a substantial prison sentence, Judge John Bevan told Luton Crown Court.

He will be sentenced at a later date.

Davenport, 26, was left with a scar running up one leg after the attack, but following surgery he has recently been able to return to light training and swimming.
