INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Greg Manusky has been hired by the Indianapolis Colts as defensive coordinator.

He is the second coordinator retained this week by Chuck Pagano, who took over Jan. 25 as the Colts' head coach. Pagano earlier announced the hiring of Bruce Arians as offensive coordinator.

Manusky, 45, was the defensive coordinator at San Diego last season and had similar duties at San Francisco from 2007-10. He previously was linebackers coach at Washington and San Francisco.

"I met with Greg yesterday and today with Coach (Pagano). I really feel good about him being a part of this," Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson said.

"(He is) a great fit. He's versatile within the scheme, 3-4, 4-3. … He's a football guy, passionate, fire in his eyes. You know when you sit with him for 2 seconds he's an intense football coach."

Under Manusky, San Diego was 22nd in the NFL in points allowed (23.6) and 16th in yards allowed (346.6) per game last season.

The Colts also said Roy Anderson joined the staff as secondary/safeties coach and Marwan Maalouf would coach special teams.
